Tupac Amaru Shakur better known by his stage name 2pac and his alias Makaveli was born Lesane Parish Crooks in June 16, 1971 in Manhattan, New York.

While born Lesane Parish Crooks, he was renamed at age one after Tupac Amaru- A descendant of the last Incan ruler ,Tupac Amaru, who was executed in Peru in 1781 after his failed revolt against Spanish rule.

Shakur's mother explained he wanted him to have the name of revolutionary, indigenous people in the world. She wanted him to know he was part of a world culture and not just from a neighborhood.

And a half sister, Sekyiwa who was two years his junior.

He relocated to San Francisco Bay Area in 1988 after which he moved to Los Angeles in 1993 to further pursue his music career.

 By the time he released his debut album "2pacalypse Now" in 1991, he had become a central figure in West Coast hip hop, introducing social issues in the game at a time when gangsta rap was dominant in the main stream.

He achieved critical and commercial success with his follow up album " Strictly 4 my N.I.G.G.A.Z in 1993 and "Me Against The World" in 1995. Shakur is one of the best selling music artists of all time having sold over 75 million records worldwide.

In 2017, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame in his first year of eligibility. Rolling stone named Shakur's in it's list of the 100 greatest artists of all time.

Outside music, Shakur also gained considerable success as an actor, with his starring roles as Bishop in Juice in 1992, Lucky in Poetic Justice in 1993 and Ezekiel in Gridlock'd in 1997, all garnering praise from critics.

The Death Of Tupac Shakur

On the night of September 7, 1996, Shakur was in Las Vegas, Nevada, to celebrate his business partner Tracy Danielle Robinson's birthday and attended a boxing match with Suge Knight.

Shakur stopped by his hotel room and then headed with Knight to his "Death Row Night Club, Club 662,in a black BMW750IL Sedan. While on the move , around 11 pm on Las Vegas Boulevard, the police stopped the car for it's loud music and lack of license plates.

At about 11:15 pm, a Cadillac sedan pulled up to the passenger side and an occupant fired into the car. Shakur was struck 4 times: Once in the arm, once in the thigh and twice in the chest with one bullet entering his tight lung.

He was taken to the University medical centre of Southern Nevada where he was heavily sedated, put on life support and later on put under a barbiturate induced coma. 

In the intensive care unit, on the afternoon of September 13,1966, Shakur died from internal bleeding. He was pronounced dead at 4:03pm. He died from respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest associated with multiple gunshot wounds.

Until his death,he is still considered by many to be one of the most influential rappers of all time. Much of his work has been noted for addressing  contemporary social issues that plagued inner cities and is considered a symbol of resistance and activism against inequality.

24 years after the death of this legendary rapper who is loved beyond America was laid to rest, here is how his burial place looks like.

Tupac was cremated and his ashes were spread in his mothers garden .
